Udupi: Man injured; 25 houses partially damaged in rainUdupi Jul 15:A man was injured and 25 houses were partially damaged due to rain and winds in Udupi district on Tuesday.According to the Udupi Taluk Office, 17 houses were partially damaged in the taluk.In most of the cases, trees fell on the houses and damaged them. A house each was partially damaged in Yedkalbettu, Havanje, Pernankila, Hirebettu, Bada and Kudi villages when trees fell on them. Three houses were partially damaged in Giliyaru village, when trees fell on them.As many as six houses were partially damaged in Nanchar village, after trees fell on them.The damage to the six houses in this village has been estimated at Rs. 1.9 lakh. Two houses were damaged in Pejemangur village. The damage to the 17 houses in Udupi taluk has been estimated at Rs. 3.14 lakh.According to the Karkala Taluk Office, the man was travelling in his jeep at Kervase village when a tree fell on it injuring him. He was rushed to Kasturba Hospital in Manipal.As many as eight houses and an anganwadi centre were damaged due to rain and winds in Karkala taluk. These are a house each at Kasaba and Shivapura villages, two houses at Varanga village, four houses.The anganwadi centre is at Hirgana village. The damage to the eight houses and the anganwadi centre has been estimated at Rs. 45,750.According to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Udupi district received an average rainfall of 42.33 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The rainfall received in the three taluks is: Udupi 35 mm, Kundapur 33.8 mm and Karkala 58.2 mm.Holiday for schoolsMonsoon intensified in Kodagu district on Tuesday with Shantalli, Talacauvery and Bhagamandala areas reporting heavy rainfall. The level of the Cauvery is threatening to cross the danger mark at various places. The river is overflowing Bhagamandala-Madikeri Road and Bhagamandala-Aiyyangeri Road, according to reports reaching here.Kodagu Deputy Commissioner has declared a two-day holiday for schools and colleges and anganwadi centres in the district from Wednesday and Thursday. This is the third time monsoon holidays have been declared in the district this season.The district has received 1099.65 mm rainfall from January 1 to July 13 this year against 926.65 mm in the same period last year.
